Bringing the Children to your Northern Oregon Camping Trip
Monday, July 5th, 2010Ah, the family camping vacation—the time to talk, bond, and do wonderful things together with the children. If you are like a typical American family, you probably enjoy having a few camping trips every year with the children. Not only do you get a chance to spend alone time with them, you also get to bring the kids closer to Mother Nature, for them to enjoy the natural beauty of the environment and perhaps, learn a few valuable environment lessons along the way.
This year, if you are planning to visit the beautiful Oregon state, you will find it perfect to camp along the vast stretches of wondrous beaches in this place. You can do awesome outdoor activities with the children such as sand castle building, hiking along the scenic coastal trails, horseback riding, crabbing, kayaking, playing on the beach, saltwater fishing, and gazing at the stars during the night.
If you are into photography, you would also enjoy taking pictures of the hundred-year-old wreck of the Peter Irdale sea schooner at Ft. Stevens State Park, the horseback riders on the beach at Nehalem Bay State Park and the scenic overlooks at Cape Lookout State Park.
As for the campgrounds, one of the best choices would be the Fort Stevens State Park. Your kids would love this place, which also happens to be one of the country’s largest campgrounds. It can offer different family activities such as lake swimming, beach combing, biking, hiking, and visiting of the museum.
Another popular campground especially for RV campers is the Kampers West RV park, which provides full RV hookups and services. Aside from these two mentioned campsites, you might also want to check out the Thousand Trails campground, Cannon Beach RV Resort, Nehalem Bay State Park, Barview Jetty County Park, and of course, the Cape Lookout State Park.
Tips for Camping with Kids
To make the whole trip easier and more manageable for you, here are some more great tips for bringing the children to your camping vacation to Oregon.
- Plan the camping trip together.
Get your kids’ opinions on where to camp and what activities to do. This would help ensure that they will also have a fun time during the vacation. Bring them with you when you shop for camping equipment and meals.
- Prepare the camping gear.
Some of the equipment you’ll need to bring include camp tents, airbed, blankets, sheets, pillows, camping stove, camp chef, grill, pots, pans, eating utensils, Swiss Army knife, flashlight, lanterns, map, compass, first aid kit, personal items, clothing, toiletries, cell phone, camera, binoculars, whistle, rope, cord, fire starter, and many more. Also, don’t forget to bring the items that your children need such as clothing, medications, games, and so on.
- Try backyard camping first.
If this is your children’s first time to go on a camping trip, you might want them to try out backyard camping first so they would know what to expect during the vacation.
- Teach kids valuable lessons about the environment.
Tell the kids about the importance of Mother Nature and taking care of the environment. Set out rules such as no littering in the campsite and no bothering of animals or plants.
- Show your children how to use camping equipment.
You can teach your kids how to set up tent and make use of camping accessories like the map and compass.
With everything planned right, you and your children would surely have a grand time during your camping adventure in Oregon.
